Celebrating 1000 Followers!

All those closest to me know that I have a hard time letting my old things go.

I am not a hoarder, but I get too attached to some of the items that I own. I am not talking about necessarily valuable or expensive things.. for example, I still have the woe-be-gone blue & white comb that I used to carry with me to school as a teenager, when I had like four hair. I still have it and use it. I have literally stopped carrying it back home to India, as my sister keeps threatening to dump it in garbage if I don’t but I am soooo fond of it that I just can’t make myself throw it away. Every time I see that comb, I feel that it takes me back to my childhood for a moment and there’s an instant rush of memories. So call me silly, but I feel that these things hold glimpses of our past. They hold memories of our happiness, sadness, fear, trust and hope.

Cut to present, a few months ago hubby was constantly pestering me to throw away my tattered old apron which I had purchased right before starting my blog. I love this apron so much. It is like an old, comforting friend who has been supporting me since the beginning of my blogging journey. Wearing it while cooking or baking during those initial days, it somehow made me feel like a serious cook. I have also abused it enough, from wiping my hands with it to cleaning the kitchen platform with it. All in all, it now looks worse than a rag-cloth! Tired of hubby’s nagging about getting a new one, I told him- “ I’ll get a new one once I reach 1000 followers on my blog, ok? I will get a bright red one with the words ‘A foodie housewife’ printed on them and we will take a picture and post it. I will deserve it then. Till then, please leave me and my poor apron alone.”

Well, hello.. this somehow happened, quietly and magically. I CROSSED 1000 FOLLOWERS ON MY BLOG! A thousand, that’s a serious number, right?  One year ago, my followers grew at a snail’s pace and hardly anyone other than my mum and my sister made an effort to religiously read my posts.  I am delighted that with time, effort and support from the awesome blogging community, it has managed to grow into something substantial.

Blogging is a fun journey but a serious one too. Anyone who thinks that blogging isn’t challenging hasn’t really done it.  You pour your heart and soul into churning out a warm space that can be of some help to the others. With every positive comment and feedback, there’s a certain rush that you get. With every negative one, you learn something. Even if you get none of those things, it still serves as your journal. I am so grateful that I left behind my dwindling, cushy days to start ‘Afoodiehousewife’. It has made me a better writer, it has made me a better cook, it has made me a better communicator and for sure, it has made me a better thinker.

P.S- If you are thinking what happened to my good old apron, rest assured, it is safely tucked away in the kitchen drawer. I wouldn’t want to get this shiny new one dirty by using it while cooking, would I ? 😉 😉 xx
